يقول الكاتب "تقوم فلسفة الحب عند العرب على فكرة أساسية هي أن الحب أمر له مفعول سحري، يغير الطباع، ويبدل الأخلاق، وينسخ العادات إلى جهة الخير والفضيلة. فهو يهذب الأفكار، ويرقق المشاعر ويلطف الغرائز ويلين النفوس ويبعث على الصدق والوفاء واللطف والكياسة. ويبلغ إبن حزم الأندلسي من البلاغة الذروة حين يصور تأثير الوصل في نفس الحبيب إذ فيه السعادة القصوى واللذة التي لا تدانيها لذة مهما كانت، فلا تقاربها لذة القرب من السلطان ..."
وفي هذا العمل يعمد الكاتب إلى شرح معاني الحب لغة ومعنى ويقربها أكثر إلى القارىء. نذكر من تلك المعاني: الألفة، الإستحسان، الإعجاب، الإغراء، التعلق، التبل، الوصال، الوداد، الوئام، الوجد، الوله، الحنان ...الخ. ومسك الختام كلمات في الحب يقول فيها الكاتب :" للحب يا صاح ستون إسماً، كلها تفيد معاني الغرام، إلفة، وجد صبابة، هيام، ومن الحب ما يحيي ويميت، ويبعث في القبر العظام، والحب – لذاته غاية المنى، ومآل الهوى وخاتمة الكلام".
يبقى أن نذكر أن الكتاب يضم لوحات فنية لأشهر الفنانين العالميين والتي تتجسد فيها معاني الحب أكثر فأكثر.
