جاء تأليف هذا الكتاب وهو الجزء الأول لدارسي الرياضيات من ذوي غير الاختصاص، بحيث يشتمل على الأسس الرياضية التي يجب الإلمام بها لكل طالب. هذا وقد راعى في تأليفه الدقة العلمية والشرح الواضح المبسط مع الأخذ بنظر الاعتبار التدرج المنطقي والترابط الموضوعي لمحتويات الكتاب. وقد تم الإكثار من الأمثلة التوضيحية المحلولة والتمارين المتنوعة الشاملة التي تعمق فهم الطالب لموضوعات هذا الكتاب.
وهكذا احتوى الكتاب على ستة فصول، تناول الفصل الأول مبادئ المنطق الرياضي الذي يعد لغة الرياضيات وأسسها. وتناول الفصل الثاني مقدمة في نظرية المجموعات وحرصنا على تبيان العلاقة ما بين المنطق الرياضي ونظرية المجموعات. أما الفصل الثالث فقد تضمن على مقدمة في الهندسة التحليلية المستوية. وتطرق الفصل الثالث فقد تضمن على مقدمة في الهندسة التحليلية المستوية. وتطرق الفصل الرابع إلى دراسة المتباينات الخطية وغير الخطية ونظام المتباينات الخطية بمتغيرين التي تعطي الأساس لدراسة مادة البرمجة الخطية.
وتضمن الفصل الخامس على دراسة موضوع المصفوفات في حين تطرق الفصل السادس إلى دراسة موضوع المتجهات.
