الكتاب فصل نفيس في جزء لطيف تكلم فيه الإمام ابن القيم الجوزية عن حقيقة الصلاة في موضعين، بطريقة مبتكرة لم يسبق إليها فيما أعلم؛ حيث تكلم عن لب الصلاة ومنحها، وهو الخشوع، من التكبير إلى التسليم، فأتى فيه بكل عجيب مفيد. ونقل ابن القيم عن شيخه ابن تيمية قال: (إذا لم تجد للعمل حلاوة في قلبك وانشراحاً فاتهمه؛ فإن الرب تعالى شكور) ثم قال معقباً عليه: (يعني أنه لابد أن يثيب العامل على عمله في الدنيا من حلاوة يجدها في قلبه وانشراح وقرة عين، فحيث لم يجد ذلك فعمله مدخول).
