بين يدينا مذكرت كان الجنرال علي فؤاد، رئيس أركان حرب جمال باشا، وقائد الفيلق الثامن، قد وضعها حول غزو مصر عام 1915م، حيث كان الجنرال علي فؤاد من عظماء الضباط الأتراك، وقد شهد له بالتقدم والبراعة السياسي الألماني الشهير (فون بابن) في مذكراته، وقد شارك في الحملة التركية على اليمن، ثم عين ملحقاً عسكرياً في باريس، ثم جعل رئيساً لأركان حرب جمال باشا، وقاد بنفسه غزوة مصر، فكان مديراً لشعبة الأعمال الحربية.
فكتب كتابه هاذا، وقد أصبح إسم هذا الجنرال، بعد قيام تركيا الحديثة، "علي فؤاد أردن"، ووضع كتاباً آخر ضمنه مذكراته عن حوادث سورية خلال الحرب العالمية الأولى، خلال قيامه برئاسة الأركان في الجيش الرابع، وقد أورد فيه أموراً كثيرة عسكرية ومدنية، شارك فيها، أو اطلع عليها، خلال قيامه بعمله.
وقد نشرت هذه المذكرات عام 1954، وقيمتها لا تقدر، فقد تضمنت الكثير خاصة عن أقدام جمال باشا على أعدام أحرار العرب، وعن أسرار ديوان حرب عاليه، وكيف أصر جمال باشا على إعدام الكثيرين، خلافاً لرأي المحكمة، ورئيسها شكري بك، وقد حاول علي فؤاد أن يخفف هذه الأحكام، ودفع شكري بك رئيس ديوان الحرب أن يستعطف جمال باشا جهد طاقته، وأن يدعوه إلى التفكير في حكم التاريخ عليه، فقد كان يعرف جيداً جمال باشا، وروح العنف والقسوة التي تسيطر عليه، لكن جمال باشا لم يأبه لإتجاه المحكمة، ولم يصغ للإستعطاف، وعندما ذكره شكري بك التاريخ صاح في وجهه قائلاً: "التاريخ!... فيلتحطم على رأسك!"…
وبلغ علي فؤاد، أبان الحرب العالمية الأولى رتبة الجنرال، وذهب على رأس بعثة عسكرية زارت الجبهة الشرقية والغربية، بدعوة من الحكومة الألمانية، وأصبح بعد ذلك رئيساً لأركان حرب الجيش التركي، ولما قامت تركية الحديثة أرسل علي فؤاد سفيراً إلى موسكو.
ولعل مذكرات علي فؤاد، التي بين يدينا، من أهم من كتب عن تاريخ سورية الحديث والبلاد العربية، ومن أجدرها بالقراءة والإعتبار لنطلع على شيء من تاريخ مصر الحديث، ونرى كيف أعدت العدة لغزو مصر، وكيف قامت ثورة العرب الكبرى.
