قد أكرم الله عزّ وجلّ هذه الأمة بالقرآن الكريم الذي فيه نبأ ما قبلها، وخبر ما بعدها، وحكم ما بينها، هو الفصل ليس بالهزل، من تركه من جبار قصمه الله تعالى، ومن ابتغى الهدى في غيره أضله الله تعالى، وهو حبل الله المتين، والذكر الحكيم، والصراط المستقيم، هو الذي لا تزيغ به الأهواء، ولا تلتبس به ألسنة الضعفاء، ولا يشبع منه العلماء، ولا تنقضي عجائبه، لم تنته الجن إذ سمعته حتى قالوا: ﴿...إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآَناً عَجَباً (1) يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآَمَنَّا بِهِ... ﴾. [سورة الجن: آية 1- 2]، من قال به صدق، ومن عمل به أجر، ومن حكم به عَدَل، ومن دعا إليه هُدي إلى صراط مستقيم.
وجاء الإمام النووي رحمه الله، فجمع من كل علم من علوم الدين، والآداب والأحكام، وما يحتاج إليه ناس من أخبار الأولين والآخرين، وأمر بالإعتناء به وملازمة آدابه.
وقد صرف الشيخ النووي أوقاته كلها في أنواع العلم والعمل بالعلم، فكان رجمه الله لا يأكل في اليوم والليلة إلا أكلة واحدة بعد العشاء الآخرة، ولا يشرب إلا شربة واحدة عند السحر.
وقد عاش خمساً وأربعين سنة، اشتغل منها بطلب العلم وتدوينه وتعليمه والعمل به ستاً وعشرين سنة، فكانت كلها في هذا الشأن، لذلك لم يتسع له الوقت للزواج.
