تتناول (قصة او) حياة مصوّرة أزياء فرنسية تُكنى بـ "او"، حُبست في أماكن غامضة وتعرضت لشتى أنواع التعذيب والإذلال والعنف والعبودية، في سبيل إثبات إخلاصها لعشيقها رينيه، في مجريات القصة، تُعصب عيناها وتُربط بالسلاسل وتُجدل بالسوط وتُثبت الحلقات في جسمها وتوسم بالنار.
كتبت أوري هذه الرواية إهداءً لبولان بشكل خاص، رداً على ملاحظته الإرتجالية، أن ليس بمقدور امرأة أن تكتب رواية جنسية حقيقية، إلا أن السبب الملحّ لذلك كان خوفها من أن تنتهي العلاقة التي تجمعهما، حيث كشفت هذا السر فيما بعد (لم أكن في ريعان صباي، ولم أكن باهرة الجمال، وبما أن الجانب الجسدي لم يكن كافياً، لذا كان من الضروري أن أحد أسلحة أخرى، للأسف، تلك الأسلحة كانت تدور في رأسي).
كُتبت هذه الرواية كتحد لجرأة بولين، (لقد كتبتها له وحده، أرضاءً له، ولكي أستحوذ على تفكيره)، هذا ما قالته لـ بولا ربابورت مخرجة الفيلم الوثائقي، قبل وفاتها بفترة قصيرة.
