يأتي الاهتمام بتطوير علوم الشريعة في الجامعات في سياق الجهد المبذول لرسم معالم المشروع الحضاري الإسلامي المعاصر، الذي يستهدف إعادة بناء النسق الثقافي والفكري للأمة، والخروج من المأزق الحضاري الذي تعاني منه، وتطوير قدرتها على استئناف الحياة الإسلامية، وتعزيز دورها في توجيه مسيرة الحضارة الإنسانية وترشيدها. ونظراً لما تقوم به مؤسسات علوم الشريعة، لا سيما في الجامعات، من دور إيجابي وفاعل في إحياء الإسلام في نفوس المسلمين، والمحافظة على سلامة الفكر الإسلامي بعيداً عن الجمود والانحراف، فإن الحرص على قوة هذه المؤسسات وسلامة توجهها من الأمور الضرورية اللازمة لتمكينها من القيام بدورها على أحسن يأتي الاهتمام بتطوير علوم الشريعة في الجامعات في سياق الجهد المبذول لرسم معالم المشروع الحضاري وجه. ولهذا الغرض فقد شاركت جمعية الدراسات والبحوث الإسلامية، بالتعاون مع المعهد العالمي للفكر الإسلامي، والجامعة الأردنية، وجامعة اليرموك، وجامعة مؤتة، في تنظيم مؤتمر "علوم الشريعة في الجامعات:الواقع والطموح" صيف عام 1994. وقد حضر المؤتمر مجموعة كبيرة من علماء الأمة ومفكريها من مختلف الأقطار، ونظروا في واقع علوم الشريعة في الجامعات، من حيث برمجها ومنهجها وأساليب تدريسها، وبينوا الضرورة الملحة لمرجعة هذا الواقع وتطويره، وأكدوا أن هذا العلوم المنطق الأساسي للفكر الإسلامي، وميدان إعداد العلماء والدعاة، الذين يؤمل منهم الإسهام الأكبر في إخراج الأمة من أزمتها، والمحافظة على هويتها، وقيادة المجتمع الإسلامي والإنساني، لتحقيق السعادة التي أرادها الله للإنسان في الدنيا والآخرة.
