رواية "الكذبة الثالثة" هي واحدة من ثلاثية "الدفتر الكبير" و "الدليل" للكاتبة الهنغارية "أغوستا كريستوف" (1935-2011) نقلها إلى العربية بسام حجّار. حازت الرواية (جائزة "ليفر أنتر" الفرنسية للرواية لعام 1992، ترجمت أعمال الكاتبة إلى أكثر من عشرين لغة.
تدور أحداث الرواية في أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية، وتكشف الوحشية المتنامية أثناء الحروب، وكيف يتم القضاء على معظم مظاهر الحياة؛ فيكون المرء إما قاتل أو قتيل، وإما جلاّد أو ضحية.
وفي الرواية ترسم كريستوف التي هربت من بلدها إبان القمع السوفياتي للثورة المجرية عام 1956 إلى النمسا كلاجئة، ومن النمسا إلى سويسرا في مساء لجوء انتهى بسويسرا لوحة حياتها وحياة أبطالها على الورق، فتحكي لنا سيرة توأمين عاشا اثناء الحرب تنتهي حياتهما بمشهد دموي "يترنح فيه الأب والرصاص يخترق قلبه، والأم تُقاد كقاتلة تنتظرها المصحات العقلية" لنتعرف فيما بعد لطفولة شاء لها القدر أن تحتضر قبل أوان الموت، طفولة تتعرض لريادة اليتم ومراكز تأهيل المعوقين، فيها تنمو موهبة ضارية لدى "لوكاس" الذي يتسلح بالشعر و "كلاوس" الذي يقارب العمل الروائي، موهبتان تتقدان كلٌ على حدة، يتخلق بينهما تماس خطير مع الحياة، حتى يتحقق اللقاء المؤجل بينهما لخمسة وأربعين عاماً، فيها نال الدهر ما أراد من طفولة ولدت ثم ما لبثت أن انطفأت، هكذا هي أغوتا كريستوف في معظم أعمالها تطرح اسئلة الحقيقة والكذب والحرب والعنف بانتظار أن يحين وقت الموت، أليست هي القائلة "مهما كان كتابٌ ما حزيناً لن يبلغ قطّ درجة حزن الحياة".
"..وأقول لها إنني أحاول أن أسرد قصتي، ولكني لا أستطيع، ولا أملك الجرأة، لأنها تؤلمني، ولذلك أُجملُ كل شيء وأصف الأمور، لا كما جرت بالفعل، بل كما كنتُ أود أن تجري. تقول: بلى، قد تكون حياة الواحد منا أشد كآبة من أشد الكتب كآبة. أقول: بالضبط، إن الكتاب، مهما كان كئيباً، لا يمكن أن يكون بمثل كآبة حياة".
