وقد تناول الكاتب عصر ابن تيمية علمياً وإجتماعياً وسياسياً، وبيّن مظاهر الأزمات الفكرية والثقافية التي بلغت أوجهاً في ذلك العصر، وتناول حياة شيخ الإسلام الفكرية والإصلاحية، ثم أفرد لمنهجه في البحث أبواباً ثلاثة، أبرز فيها طريقه في الإحتجاج باللغة وشروطه، وطريقه في الإحتجاج بالنقل عن الأصول والإستنباط منها، وطريقه في الإحتكام إلى العقل وحدود الإستدلال به، فأوضح لنا تكامل المنهج المعرفي لدى شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية، أحد رموز الحضارة الإسلامية البارزين، وأحد الرواد الذين امتد تأثيرهم إلى يومنا هذا، بما خلفه من أعمال موسوعية شاملة، استفادت منها سائر حركات الإصلاح التي جاءت بعده.
