لقد أدت الكنيسة الأرثوذكسية سلسلة من الصلوات الصباحية والمسائية وينتظر من كل فرد أن يمارسها. أن معظم هذه الصلوات قديمة وهذا الكتاب هو قانون للصلاة لا يستوعب كل شيء، إنما هو مرشد بسيط يكمل بتضرعات أخرى طوعيه. غير أن الهدف الأساسي ليس في تكرار القانون فحسب بل هو فهم المعنى الروحي، ومشكلة الصلاة هي الانتباه، هي الوقوف أمام الله وعدم التلهي عنه بالأمور الدنيوية، يجب أن تتلى كلمات الصلاة بحيث تكون ذات أثر في النفس. والكتاب يرشد المؤمن ليصلي أولاً منفرداً. والذين يعتادون هذه الصلاة الانفرادية يستطيعون دون سواهم أن يجتمعوا معاً روحياً وأن يوحدوا طلباتهم لأجل البعض الآخر، ويشير الكتاب بأن هؤلاء الذين لم يسبق لهم التروض على الصلاة الانضمام إلى غيرهم لا ينتج عن ذلك صلاة جمهورية بل صلاة قصدها الظهور والرياء، لذلك فإن نظام الكنيسة يتطلب من كل مؤمن أن يعد نفسه للصلاة الجمهورية أثناء صلاته الفردية، في (المخدع) يبدأ الفرد بالصالة في بيته أولا ثم يذهب إلى الكنيسة ويشترك مع باقي الاخوة في تقديم الإكرام والتسبح لله وطلب حاجاتهم.
