قال المفسر: إن السعيد أبقراط زعم ان الصنائع إنما تنشأ وتستويق بأن يسلم المبتدئ والمبتدع ما ابتدأه إلى من يتلوه، والذي يلوه يتصفحه ويزيده بحسب طاقته ويجري الأمر على هذا إلى أن تستكمل الصناعة، ولهذا يؤثر أرسطو طاليس الطبيب أن يكون المبدعون للمبادئ مساكنهم البلدان، الحارة لحاجاتهم إلى الذكاء القوي، فأما المتممون فيؤثر أن تكون بلدانهم، البلدان الباردة، من قبل أن المتهم يحتاج أن يكون ثابتاً غير عجول. ونحن، فلما كنا قد اقتفينا في نظرنا، آثار من تقدمنا، واجتهدنا في استقصاء ما اوردوه، واستخرجنا ما غيض من أقاويلهم وبياناتهم عدة معان زائدة على ما قالوه، أحببنا أن نجمع يسير ما قلنا إلى كثير ما قالوا، ونجعل من جملة ذلك تفسيراً واحداً، يستغني الناظر فيه عن النصب والتعب وتصفح ما تقدمه من التفاسير، ولمحبتنا للحق وإيثارنا الإحتذاء بطريقة القدماء، ينبغي لنا أن نجعل ابتداء ما فعل نفعله، مثل ما فعلوه، وقد جرت عادة المفسرين أجمعين قبل النظر في كتاب أرسطو طاليس المعروف بقاطيغورياس أن ينظر في عشرة مبادئ ورؤوس الانتفاع بها في الفلسفة. الأول منها كم عدد فرق الفلاسفة، والثاني في قسمة كتب أرسطو طاليس، والثالث النظر في المبدأ الذي منه يبتدأ بتعلم الفلسفة. والرابع: النظر في الطريق التي تسلك من المبدأ حتى يوصل بها إلى الغاية والخامس: النظر في الغاية التي تؤدي بنا إليها الفلسفة. والسادس النظر في معلم كتب أرسطو طاليس، والسابع: النظر في متعلم كتبه على أي صفة يجب أن يكون في قبوله العلم وأخلاقه. والثامن: النظر في كلام أرسطو طاليس والتاسع: إعطاء السبب الذي من أجله استعمل الإغماض في بعض قوله. والعاشر: فيعدد المبادئ التي ينبغي أن ينظر فيها قبل كل كتاب. وينبغي لنا الآن قبل النظر في واحد واحد من هذه المطالب، أن نبين لم صارت عشرة، لا زائدة ولا ناقصة.
