Book Description
بعد أن تم طبع الكتاب المقدس باللغة العربية لأول مرة سنة 1865 وانتشر بين القراء، ظهرت الحاجة الماسة إلى طريقة للبحث عن الآيات الواردة فيه، إذ أنه من المستحيل تذكر كل الآيات مع شواهدها لطول الكتاب المقدس وقصور الذاكرة. لذا ظهرت الحاجة إلى فهرس الآيات بترتيب يجعل من السهل على القارئ البحث عن أي آية إذا تذكر كلمة منها. وقد عمل دكتور جورج بوست وكان أستاذاً في الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت، عمل في هذا المشروع الضخم الذي استنفذ منه ومن معاونيه آلاف ساعات العمل حتى أتمه سنة 1875. ثم أعيد طبعه سنة 1930. ولشدة الحاجة لهذا الفهرس أعيد طبعه عدة مرات بعد ذلك. والطبعة التي بين يدينا هي الطبعة الحادية عشرة وغايتها تمكين المفتش من وجود آية ما من الكتاب المقدس بواسطة كلمة من كلماتها الرئيسية. مثال ذلك يمكن للقارئ أن يجد رو 1:8 بالتفتيش في لفظة شيء ودينونة والمسيح يسوع والسالكين والجسد والروح وقس كل ذلك.
