هذا الكتاب في أصله رسالة ماجستير قدمته الباحثة لكلية اللغة العربية جامعة أم القرى وهو عن أحد بناة أدب الأطفال في المملكة العربية السعودية: الأستاذ يعقوب اسحاق المعروف بـ (بابا يعقوب)، حرصت المؤلفة فيه على عرض نماذج لقصصه وتقويمها فنياً. كما سعت إلى الكشف عن الرؤية الإسلامية العربية الوطنية للكاتب، التي تجمع بين الأصالة والمعاصرة فيما يوجهه للطفل، في مجال القصة تحديداً، وذلك لأطفال ما فوق عمر السادسة.
بدأت المؤلفة هذه الدراسة بمقدمة نظرية بينت: أهمية أدب الأطفال وخصائصه، وأهمية القصة منه خصوصاً. كما تطرقت إلى نبذة يسيرة عن اهتمامات الأدب السعودي في مسيرته الحديثة، مع لفتة سريعة عن المؤلف وحياته ومؤلفاته. يليها فصلان يشتملان على عدة مباحث، وهما على النحو التالي:
-أولاً: الفصلى الأول وهو: يعرض المحاور الموضوعية في قصص يعقوب إسحاق. –ثانياً: الفصل الثاني: ويقدم المحاور الفنية للقصة، وعرض بعض النماذج لذلك، وبيان الأدوات والتقنيات القصصية التي حوتها تلك النماذج من: عنصر الحدث، وعنصري الزمان والمكان، وكذلك الشخصيات سواء أكانت بشرية أم غير بشرية، ثم اللغة ومستوياتها عند الأطفال، وأيضاً دلالات الرمز وكيفية تسخيرها لخدمة العمل القصصي، وأخيراً التشكيل البصري للقصة ومدى دعمه لها وآثاره المترتبة على قبول الطفل لها أو رفضها. كل هذه العناصر مجتمعة هي ما يمكن أن يقدم للطفل عملاً قصصياً ناجحاً يناسب الأطفال ويستحق العناية به.
