تتحدث هذه الدراسة عن علم الأصوات في كتب معاني القرآن وذلك في تمهيد وخمسة فصول: تناول التمهيد نبذة موجزة من حياة اللغويين الثلاثة ونشأتهم ووفاتهم، وأهم شيوخهم وتلامذتهم.
وتناول التمهيد أيضاً، مناهجهم في الدراسة الصوتية بالوقوف على مناهجهم في عرض ثقافتهم الصوتية وموقفهم من القراءات واللهجات ومدى التشابه والإختلاف بينهم في تلك المناهج.
وفي الفصل الأول عرض لجهودهم في تحديد مخارج الأصوات وصفاتها وذلك في مبحثين، تناول الأول منهما تحديد مخارج الأصوات صوامت ومصوتات واعتمدت ترتيب القدماء للأصوات بدءاً من الحَلق إلى الشفتين، في حين اختص الثاني منهما بتحديد صفات الأصوات صوامته ومصوتات أيضاً على الترتيب نفسه.
وانفرد الفصل الثاني بالهمزة من باب إفراد الخاص من العام، نظراً لإهميتها وما يطرأ عليها من تغيير وتبديل، فقد احتلت الهمزة في كتب اللغويين الثلاثة مكاناً فسيحاً قياساً إلى باقي الأصوات.
وتضمن الفصل الثالث أبرز ظاهرة لغوية عرض لها الثلاثة أثناء تفسيرهم آيات الكتاب الحكيم، وهي ظاهرة الإبدال، وكان في مبحثين: الأول بين الصوامت اعتمد فيه ترتيب الدكتور حسام النعيمي للإبدال بين الأصوات عند ابن جني.
وفي الفصل الرابع عرضت للظواهر اللغوية الأخرى التي تناولها العلماء في تفاسيرهم فكانت عشراً هي: الإدغام، الوقف والوصل، التشديد والتخفيف، التحريك والتسكين، الإخفاء، الإمالة والتفخيم، التضعيف، المدّ والقصر، الإشمام والروم، والقلب.
وفي الفصل الخامس تناول أبرز ظاهرتين تحققان التناسق الصوتي فيما تناوله الثلاثة، وهما الإتباع ورعاية الفاصلة، وكانت دراسة الإتباع في قسمين الأول في الكلمات والثاني في الحركات.
وقد حرص في هذه الفصول الخمسة على عرض جهود اللغويين الثلاثة على آراء الخليل وسيبويه على الدرس الصوتي الحديث لأتبين ثمرة تلك الجهود ومدى مواقفتها أو مخالفتها للدراسات الصوتية القديمة والحديثة.
وقد أنهى البحث بخاتمة ضمت تلخيصاً للبحث من أهم النتائج التي تم التوصل إليها.
