ربما كان هذا الكتاب من أطرف ما يوضع في أيدي قراء العربية عن كردستان العراقية وثورتها، فقد نشره مؤلفه الفرنسي في العام 1967 بعد فترة قضاها في موطن الثورة، هي أهم وأخطر الفترات التي اجتازتها، وبالضبط في شهر أيار من العام 1966.
وكان هذا الكتاب ثمرة رحلة قام بها المؤلف إلى مناطق الثورة الكردية ليكون شاهد عيان لأخطر معاركها، وليجدها بحسب تعبيره نفسه "حرباً دموية مجهولة أو متجاهلة من قبل الرأي العام العالمي"؛ وآل على نفسه بعد أن شهد مآسيها وشقاء أهلها الذي ساوى في الشدة والعنف، إصرارهم وتمسكهم بالنضال من أجل حقهم في الحياة الكريمة والتحرر أن يذيع أنباءها وينشر الحقائق عنها "كما ينتشر أزيج زهر حبالها المسكر" بحسب تعبير المؤلف وهي العبارة التي ختم بها كتابه.
