بعد أن صدرت مجموعة الرسائل الروحية ليوحنا الدلياتي باللغة العربية نقلاً عن السريانية، كان لا بد من العمل الدؤوب لإتمام نقل مجموعة الميامر الروحية إلى العربية، وكذلك نشرها، لما لهذه الميامر من أهمية في إطار الأدب السرياني الروحي وفي لُحمة الحياة الرهبانية النسكية الشرقية. ويؤكد الأب روبير بولاي الاختصاصي بهذا الكتاب، أن للميامر أهمية عميقة ووزناً قصياً في تعليم الدلياتي الروحي. إذ يمكن إعادة تشكيل البنية الأساسية لعقيدته الروحية استناداً إلى العديد من الميامر. أما بخصوص عنوان هذا الكتاب وهذه المجموعة من كتابات يوحنا الدلياتي، فقد اختير الحفاظ على كلمة "الميامر" وهي تعني حديثاً أو بحثاً أو مقالاً دفاعياً أو عظة، ولم يعتمد كلمة عظة، إذ أن لهذا التعبير معناه الحصري في القاموس العربي، ومن المعروف أن الميمر خطاب موزون من الفنّ الملحمي تُلِي في الكنائس في أثناء الاحتفالات راوياً الكتاب المقدس وسير القديسيين. ويمكن أن تكون الميامر شفهية إلا أن بعضها كان مكتوباً.
