"العرب والسياسة البريطانية في الحرب العالمية الأولى" كتاب يقدم المؤلف من خلاله قصة العرب والسياسة البريطانية في الحرب العالمية الأولى (1914) وبالرغم من أن الكثير من الكتب والمقالات ظهرت عن هذه القصة بمختلف اللغات إلا أن تفاصيلها وأسرارها تظهر على هذه الصفحات لأول مرة، لأنها استندت إلى وثائقها الأصلية والتي لم تكن ميسورة ممن كتبوا قبل الدكتور مكي شبيكة مؤلف من الباحثين.
وقد قام بتصوير هذه الوثائق التي لها علاقة بالموضوع دون استثناء واحدة منها ثم رتبها في هذا لكتاب ترتيباً زمنياً ليتركها تحكي بنفسها قصتها. وإلى هذا لم يقتصر المؤلف على نصوص الوثائق فحسب، بل قام بمتابعة تعليقات المختصين عليها من أصغر موظف إلى الوزير نفسه. وللقصة بداية ونهاية بدأت أولى الحلقات في آب/ أغسطس سنة 1914 عندما دوّن الكابتن (رسل) محادثة مع عزيز علي المصري فى القاهرة وانتهت في شباط/فبراير سنة 1916 وفي القاهرة أيضاً بخطابات تبودلت بين السيد هنري مكماهون والشريف حسين حيث اتفقا على بعض الأمور واختلفا على البعض الآخر.
وبعد ذلك دخل الفريقان في مرحلة الاستعداد حتى تحن الفرصة المناسبة لإعلان الثورة العربية وقد حدث في حزيران يونيو سنة 1916 وأثناء ما كانت المفاوضات بالخطابات بين ماكماهون والشريف، بدأت المفاوضات بين فرنسا وبريطانيا لتحديد مناطق نفوذ كل منهما من الأقطار العربية التي تستظل بالراية العثمانية وانتهت إلى اتفاق تام بين الفريقين بمعاهدة (سايكس-ربيكو) في نفس الشهر شباط 1976 وما بقي من الزمن لتوقيعها الرسمي في أيار/مايو من نفس السنة لم يكن إرجاء لتسوية اختلافات بينها بل لتكملة التفاوض مع روسيا لتحديد نصيبها هي الأخرى من أسلاب الدولة العثمانية. فالموقف في شباط/فبراير/1916 إذا يتلخص في اتفاقية رسمية وقع عليها فيما بعض لتحديد مناطق النفوذ بينها. بينما انتهت المكاتبات بين الشريف ومكماهون دون توقيع اتفاقية رسمية. وكان هذا موقف العرب عندما أعلنوا الثورة ضد الترك في حزيران/يونيو/1916 وفي هذا الكتاب تحدثت الوثائق بنفسها عن تفاصيل هذه القصة.
