حفظت لنا الدبلوماسية الإسلامية حادث فريد من نوعه، لم يحدث قبله ولا بعده مثله، هو توجيه الإمبراطور البزنطي "نقفور فوقاس" رسالة إلى الخليفة العباسي "المطيع"، لم تكن الرسالة بالمعنى الدبلوماسي في المراسلات بين ملوك المسلمين وملوك الروم، بل كانت قصيدة شعرية باللغة العربية كلها شتم وهجاء للإسلام والمسلمين، ولهذا تصدى للإجابة عليها كل إمام المسلمين أبو بكر محمد بن علي بن إسماعيل القفّال والإمام ابن حزم الأندلسي عبر كتابه الأول لقصيدة يرد بها عليه، وارتجال الثاني (ابن حزم) لقصيدة أخرى على أثر قراءتها على مسمعه. وفي هذا الكتاب نص للقصائد الثلاث جمعها الدكتور "صلاح الدين المنجد" شارحاً مضمونهم ومقدماً لمناسبات كتابتهم، بأسلوب يُسهل على القارئ فهم معاني القصائد ومضمونها.
