إن أهم ما يميز إجتماع إنسان بإنسان آخر هو حدوث تفاعل معين تقوم على أساسه علاقات مختلفة وتنشأ العمليات الإجتماعية بين الأفراد نتيجة لحدوث هذا التفاعل بينهم.
ولعل من أبرز وأهم مظاهر العمليات الإجتماعية هي ظاهرة الصراع، إذ تلعب تلك الظاهرة دوراً بارزاً في تاريخ الإنسان وذلك من خلال بحثه عن الحرية وسعيه لتحقيق الإستقرار وهو ما دفع بالعديد من المنظرين إلى البحث في هذه الظاهرة.
على إن إحدى أهم الإشكاليات التي تواجه أصحاب هذه النظريات تنحصر في التساؤل التالي: ما هي الآلية التي تكفل التخلص من النزاع والإضطراب أي القضاء على الصراع في المجتمع؟
ومن هنا نجد أن فكرة الصراع تحتل مكانة بارزة في أدبيات علم الإجتماع، وذلك لما لتلك الظاهرة من أهمية بالغة في تاريخ المجتمعات البشرية على إعتبار أنها تشكل ظاهرة لصيقة بكافة التنظيمات الإجتماعية.
