"طيبة في عهد امنحوتب الثالث" هو الكتاب الخامس من هذه السلسلة الفريدة. كانت طيبة، عاصمة مصر العليا والسفلى، ومقر الآلهة المالكين، في أوج مجدها في القرن الرابع عشر قبل الميلاد: كان السلام عاماً، والخير فائضاً، و"الذهب كالتراب". وأمنحوتب العظيم حاكماً ركيناً.
لقد استقرت المؤلفة اكتشافات الحفريات، وأوراق البردى، وكتابات المؤرخين الأقدمين، فرسمت صورة دقيقة لحياة الطبقات المختلفة في طيبة، ابتداء بالملك وحاشيته في الكرنك، ومروراً بالكهنة الكثر في المعابد المنتشرة، والكتبة ومُعدّي المقبرة للملك، وإنتهاء بالجنود الذين بنوا الأمبراطوريات. هنا، كانت الفلسفة والدين للدولة الجديدة تتركز حول استعطاف الآلهة والبحث عن الخلود.
والكتاب يحدثنا عن كل هذا وعن الملوك المتتالين على عرش مصر حتى إنقضاء الأسرة الثامنة عشرة، وأنه نظرة في حضارةٍ حجب الزمن قدراً كبيراً من أهميتها.
