إن المعاناة المشتركة بين بني البشر هي الاغتراب عن الذات والأقران والطبيعة, والإحساس بأن الحياة تتسرب من بين الأصابع كالرمال وأن الموت سيأتي قبل أن يكون المرء قد عاش حقاً والوفرة التي يعيش بها لا توفر له البهجة. الإنسان هو الذي صنع نفسه وقيمه وتاريخه, وهو الذي بنى حضارة الأرض وأعطى للوجود, وكل شيء معناه. وقد تعرض في أثناء ذلك الى الكثير من الاحباطات والآلام, بل تعرض للموت أيضاً, ولكنه قاوم لكي يصمد, ويقف على رجليه, وقد وقف. وليس المقصود أن الأحداث التي جاءت في هذه المسرحية قد حدثت فعلاً في بلد بعينه لكن من الأكيد أنها حدثت فعلاً بشكل أو بآخر, عبر مسار الإنسانية الطويل, ليس في بلد واحد فقط وإنما في بلدان الكرة الأرضية كلها.
