لما كان الشعر الجاهلي هدفاً ابتغي البحث والدراسة فيه، اخترت الولوج إلى هذا الموضوع الذي لم يكن الأول إذ سبقت دراسات عديدة بحثت شاعراً بين ناقديه، فكان ذلك معيناً لي، ومما ساعد أيضاً إهتمام النقاد بالنابغة الذبياني ذلك الشاعر الذي ركب اغلب الفنون وأبدع فضلاً عن إبتكاره الإعتذار فصار شاعر الإعتذار والإستعطاف فدارت حوله حركة نقدية واسعة استحقت البحث والإستنباط.
فتناولنا آراء النقاد بالدراسة والمناقشة والتحلل متوصلين إلى الوجهة الموضوعية بحق شاعر قدم للإنسان في زمانه المساعدة التي استطاعها وقدم لنا عبر رحلة القرون الطويلة فناً يطرب الآذان والنفوس فاستطاع أن يأسر قلوبنا في وصفه ما وقع عليه من جور الحاسدين.
وقد اشتمل البحث على تمهيد وثلاثة فصول، تحدثنا في التمهيد عن معنى (نقد النقد) لنتوصل إلى أهمية دراسة شاعر بين ناقديه، أما الفصول فحاز فيهم الأول والثاني آراء القدامى في شخص النابغة وشاعريته ولاحظنا فيه إختلاف طبيعة النقد من الإنطباعية التي ميزت القرن الأول الهجري بإبتعادها عن التعليل إلى وضع قواعد للنقد في القرنين الثاني والثالث فظهر النقد اللغوي والبلاغي...
واستوعب الفصل الثالث أربعة مناهج لدراسة شعر النابغة في ضوء النقد الحديث وهي المنهج النفسي والإجتماعي والأسطوري والتحليلي.
