كرّم الله تعالى الإنسان وفضّله على جميع المخلقات ووهبه العقل، وحذره من الشيطان الرجيم، وكل انحراف عن القرآن والسنة يعتبر طاعة للشيطان، ولكن على هذا الإنسان أن يحاسب نفسه؛ وذلك لأن كثيراً من الناس يتركون الخالق (سبحانه وتعالى) ويطلبون العون والمساعدة، وقضاء الحاجات من الأولياء وغيرهم من أصحاب القبور المزركشة، من أجل ذلك كان هذا الكتاب الذي يذكر فيه المؤلف مجموعة من قصص التائبين من مشاهير وعلماء ودعاة وغيرهم، واللافت للنظر أن المؤلف قد بدأ بقصته شخصياً وتجاربه مع الطرق الصوفية الذين يعبدون أصحاب القبور من دون الله تعالى. والغرض من جمع هذه القصص ليس هو مجرد التسلية والاستمتاع بما فيها من مغامرات وبطولات وأخبار، وإنما الغرض هو أخذ العبرة والعظة منها والانتفاع بما ورد فيها من دروس وفوائد، ومن ثم ترجمة ذلك إلى واقع عملي، تظهر آثاره على السلوك والأخلاق. ولزيادة الفائدة في هذا المجال ضمّن المؤلف كتابه مختارات من كتاب "التوابين" لابن قدامة المقدسي.
