كاتب بريطاني، حاصل على جائزة نوبل للآداب، اشتهر بكتابته لرواية أمير الذباب.
ولد غولدنغ في محافظة كورنويل، جنوب غرب إنكلترا ودرس العلوم الطبيعية في جامعة أوكسفورد لسنتين قبل أن يغير اختصاصه إلى الأدب الإنكليزي.
تزوج في عام 1939، وأنجب طفلين.
حاز غولدينغ على جائزة نوبل في الأدب عام 1983، كما نال جائزة بوكر للأدب عام 1980.
مُنح لقب "فارس" من الملكة إليزابيث الثانية في 1988.
وكان عضوا في الجمعية الملكية للأدب.
وفي عام 2008، وضعته صحيفة "التايمز" البريطانية، في المرتبة الثالثة في قائمة "أفضل 50 كاتب بريطاني منذ 1945".
أصيب غولدنغ بقصور قلبي، أدى إلى الموت.
دفن في قرية باورتشاك.
Book Description
سير وليم غولدينغ روائي إنكليزي. ولد في كورنوول. درس في جامعة أكسفورد قبل أن يصبح معلما. في البداية لاقى رفضا لاعماله من قبل العديد من الناشرين، ولما خاطر أحدهم بنشر روايته الاولى "سيد الذباب Lord of the flies" سنة 1954، سرعان ما أصبحت هذه الرواية بعد عدة أثرا أدبيا من الطراز الأول.
يصف غولدينغ في هذه الرواية الحياة اليومية لمجموعة من الطلاب جنحت بهم طائرة الى إحدى الجزر النائية، ويحكي كيف أن الدعوة الى العنف إذا لقيت استجابة من الجمهور يمكن أن تؤدي إلى تراجع ما اكتسبته الحضارة من قيم انسانية.
ولغولدينغ روايات أخرى تنسج على المنوال نفسه، منها: "الوارثون The Inheritors" (1956). نال غولدينغ جائزة نوبل للآداب سنة 1983، ورفعت مكانته الاجتماعية الى رتبة فارس بعد ذلك بخمس سنوات. وفي هذه الطبعة من "سيد الذباب" ذكر للنص الانكليزي عن الرواية الى جانب النص المترجم للغة العربية.
