يضع اتحاد المصارف العربية هذا الدليل، "دليل المصارف العربية والمؤسسات المالية العربية"، في إصداره الأول للعام 2002، في خدمة المجتمع المصرفي والمالي والاقتصادي العربي. ويتضمن هذا الدليل بطاقات تعريف ومعلومات شاملة ومتكاملة عن المصارف والمؤسسات المالية العربية والتي تشتمل على معلومات عن فترة تأسيسها وعناوينها وموضوع نشاطها وخدماتها ومنتجاتها الأساسية وبنية مجالس إدارتها وإدارتها العليا والمساهمين فيها ومؤشراتها المالية وترتيبها ضمن قطاعها المصرفي وتصنيفاتها الائتمانية وغيرها من المعلومات الأخرى الهامة.
وقد أراد اتحاد المصارف العربية من خلال وضعه لهذا الدليل، الذي سيكون إصداره حولياً، توثيق عرى التعاون والتعارف بين مؤسسات القطاع المالي العربي، وأيضاً تشكيل أرضية مصرفية تساعده هذه المؤسسات على بلورة فرص أعمال مشتركة تعود بالفائدة عليها، وعلى القطاع المصرفي عموماً. انطلق هذا المشروع في أوائل شهر أيلول/سبتمبر من العام 2001 بحيث تم إرسال بطاقات المعلومات إلى عموم المؤسسات المصرفية والمالية والاستثمارية العربية، مع متابعة دائمة من قبل اتحاد المصارف العربية للحصول على المعلومات المطلوبة. والدليل الذي نضعه بين أيديكم اليوم هو باللغة العربية، وسوف يصدر عما قريب باللغة الإنكليزية، ليكون باللغتين العربية والإنكليزية.
