الأمومة هي غاية ما تطلبه المرأة بعد الزواج ولكن هذه الغاية إن لم تتحقق في الواقع فهل سيتكفل الحلم بتحقيقها؟ هذا هو المجال الذي تدور حوله رواية «عندما يثقب الوعي» للكاتبة السعودية ملاك إبراهيم العجيلي التي قاربت عملها من منظور نفسي، تتَّبعُ من خلاله مشاعر الأمومة بين الواقع والخيال، وتبحث في فكرة "الحرمان" أو "العقم" لدى "أمل" الشخصية المحورية في الرواية وانعكاس عدم الإنجاب عليها وزوجها والمجتمع التقليدي الذي تنتمي إليه بأنواعه، اللفظي والجسدي والنفسي؛ فمع حرمان "أمل" من الإنجاب وعقمها ويأسها، يأتي جميع من حولها ليتدخل في أمرها؛ أمها وأهل الزوج والصديقات والجارات؛ فتلك تُشير إليها بـ "القابلة الداهية"، وتلك تُشير إليها بـ "الراقية.. قارئة القرآن"، وتلك تَقرأ لها "الفنجان"، وتلك تُأكد لها أن عدم الإنجاب سببه "التابع للرجل والتابع للأنثى".. ونسوة عديدات بدأن يَخفن من تأثير عينيها على بنيهم من "الحسد" وهكذا وجدت "أمل" نفسها في دائرة لا خروج منها إلا بالحلم.. فرسمت لنفسها عالماً ينضح بالأمومة.. لا تعرف ما تعيشه حقيقةً أم خيال..عالماً جعلها تلد ابنة جميلة سيكون فقدها بعد سنة من ولادتها السبب في تصبح نزيلة إحدى المصحات النفسية...
ما يميز هذه الرواية أنها لا تقتصر على مزج المادة الواقعية بالمادة الخيالية في النص بل تجعل حتى المتلقي وربما الناقد يقف حائراً يتسائل: هل ما تعيشه الشخصية الرئيسية حقيقةً أم خيال؟ ولكي يصل إلى الإجابة يتحتم عليه أن يعمل بوصفه معالجاً أو محللاً نفسياً للكشف عن سرّ الرواية.. وخاصةً أن الكاتبة اعتمدت أسلوب تيار الوعي المتداعي وما له من أثر في سيطرة ضمير المتكلم على السرد الذي ظل رهينة لإرادة الكاتبة ومشيئتها حتى انتهاء الرواية.. ما يبشر بموهبة أدبية مميزة في انتقاءاتها الفنية (التقنية) في الأدب الروائي العربي الحديث...
