يضمُّ هذا الديوان تراجم شعراءِ بني كلبٍ وأشعارهم، ومعظمهم شعراء معروفةً أسماءهم أو ما ينوبُ عنها من ألقابهم أو كُناهم أو أزواجهم، وثمّة ثُلَّة منهم لم تُعرف أسماءهم أو ما ينوب عنها، فَهُمْ مجهولون فلم نُفردَ لكلّ واحد منهم ترجمة خاصة كما هو شأن الآخرين.
لذلك، ترجم المؤلف في هذا الفصل لكلّ واحد من أولئك المعروفين على قدر ما أسعفت به المصادر، من حيث النسبُ، والكنيةُ، واللَّقَبُ، والأسرةُ، والشعراء الأقربُونَ، ومن حيث الأخبار المختلفة، والخروجُ من ذلك كله إلى تحديد عصر كلّ شاعِر ما أمكن، ثم ذكرُ أشعارهم مع الإشارة إلى الإضطراب الواقع فيه.
