مما دعا الشيخ "محمد الحجار" إلى وضع كتاب في (الحب الخالد) قراءته لكتاب "ربانية لا رهبانية" للسيد أبي الحسن الندوي، وقراته لترجمة جلال الدين الرومي، وما أوتي من رقة في الشعر وصدق في التعبير فانشرح صدره كما يقول لجمع كتاب يبين فيه مآثر السلف الصالح وما أوتوا من إخلاص في العمل، وما قاموا به من خدمة للأمم.
وافتتح الكتاب بترجمة موجزة للشيخ جلال الدين الرومي الذي ألهب القلوب بالحب والعاطفة في زمانه... ثم أورد طائفة من الآيات القرآنية في الحب الإلهي، ومجموعة من الأحاديث النبوية، ونماذج شعرية، وأدعية تعين على تزكية النفس، وأقوال الأئمة في إيثار لذة القلب في معرفة الله تعالى وتوحيده وحبه على جميع المشتهيات.
وبعد ذلك، عاد الحديث عن دعوة جلال الدين الرومي إلى الحب الخالد، وفوائد الحب وقوته، وإكسير الحب وعجائبه... ثم أورد نموذجاً من نماذج الحب المثالي في قصة رابعة العدوية، وذكر الطريق للوصول لهذا النوع من الحب، وتابع الحديث عن شعلة الحب التي إذا التهبت أحرقت كل ما سواها.
وعاد لذكر نموذج من نماذج الحب والتزكية، وهو العالم الرباني "مالك بن دينار"، وأورد الكثير من حكمه ومواعظه... ولم ينس التحذير من الشهوات الثلاث: البطن والفرج والمال "لأنه لا وصول للمقصود إلا عن طريق الوسيلة، فحب الله تعالى الخالد لا وصول إليه إلا بقطع العلاق والعوائق بترك الإستغراق في هذه الشهوات الحاجبة عن الله تعالى وحبَّه" كما ذكر توجيهات نافعة انتخبها من عدد من كتب التفسير كالفخر الرازي، والقرطبي، وابن كثير، والآلوسي وغيرهم...
