يعد هذا الكتاب بمثابة عملية فهم لفرقة الأباضية كفرقة مسلمة ومؤمنة بالعقيدة الإسلامية التي يشترك فيها كافة فرق المسلمين الموحدين وليس كما توحي إليه كلمة الخوارج عنهم كمصطلح. ولكون القضية انبلجت من التحكيم في معركة صفين بين أمير المؤمنين علي بن ابي طالب وبين معاوية بن ابي سفيان، فإن مؤلف الكتاب سعى كما يقول إلى أن يستشرق من خلجات الإمام حول شعوره نحو من أطلق عليهم بالخوارج وحكمه على إيمانهم كمسلمين، بتسليط الضوء على كتاب (نهج البلاغة) الذي ذكر فيه الإمام قضية من خرجوا عليه وذلك في أكثر من ستة مواقع في الكتاب المذكور لم يذكر فيها كلمة الخوارج عن هؤلاء إلا في موقع واحد وذلك كتعريف وليس كصفة ...
لأجل ذلك يسعى المؤلف في كتابته عن الأباضية إلى رؤية توفيقية مفادها: "أنني في انطلاقاتي في الكتابة عن الأباضية لن أنحى إلى المحاججة ومن مواقف الفرق وحججهم في إبطال مواقف بعضهم بعضاً ومنها تكفير الأباضية وإطلاق صفة الخوارج عليهم بل سأحلل وأستحصل النتائج من واقع تفاعل الأحداث وأثر المراجعات في سلوك الأباضية حتى وصل ذلك السلوك عند الفرد الأباضي إلى الوسطية الرائعة التي تنعكس على المعاملات والعلاقات الإجتماعية السائدة بينهم وبين مختلف الطوائف والأقوام المسلمة وإن اروع مثال للحياة المعاشة في الوطن العماني الذي يتعايش فيه مذاهب شتى بتناغم وتناسق وإنصاف إلى حد كبير لا تؤول إلى التبرم والشكاية".
هذا، وقد الحق الكتاب في قسمه الثاني بـ (رشحات التصوف في أوساط الأباضية) استخرجها المؤلف من بطون الكتب وهي لطائف وأناشيد واشعار دينية تنم عن نفثات قدسية، وكلمات عرشية، عبق عبيرها على طول صفحات الكتاب.
