بمراجعة شريعة لفهرست الكتاب نجد أن موضوعه يتمحور حول المهدي المنتظر حيث يتحدث عن ولادته، أسمائه وألقابه وكناه وشمائله وخصائصه والألطاف الإلهية التي خصت به عليه السلام أو التي سوف تخص به والمنسوبة إلى جميع الأنبياء والأوصياء عليهم السلام أو المنسوبة إلى أكثرهم، والتي شاركه عدة منهم في بعضها، إلى جانب هذا تناول الكتاب اختلاف المسلمين فيه بعد اتفاقهم على صحة صدور الأخبار النبوية في حتمية مجيء إنسان في آخر الزمان باسمه ويلقب بالمهدي يملأ الدنيا عدلاً.
كما وحاول إثبات أن المهدي الموعود هو الحجة بن الحسن العسكري من نصوص أهل السنة، وذكر منها ثلاثين حديثاً، كما وحاول إثبات الدعوة المذكورة عن طريق المعجزات الصادرة منه عليه السلام، ونقل أربعين معجزة، إلى جانب ذلك ذكر أولئك الذين التقوا به عليه السلام، أو وقفوا على معجزة من معاجزة عليه السلام، أو على أثر من آثاره عليه السلام الدالة على وجوده.
وهذا الباب هو العمد في سبب تأليف هذا الكتاب، وقد ذكر هناك مائة قصة. وفي مرحلة لاحقة قام بالجمع بين الحكايات والقصص المذكورة وما وصل من أخبار في ضرورةـ تكذيب مدعي الرؤية في الغيبة الكبرى... وبيان جواب صرف تلك الأخبار عن ظاهرها، وذكر خمسة وجوه لها ما يناظرها في كلمات العلماء ومطاوي الأخبار، وذكر تصريح جماعة من الإعلام بإمكان الرؤية في أيام الغيبة، وبعض من كلمات السيد علي بن طاووس التي يظهر منها دعواه هذا المقام لنفسه.
وفي مرحلة لاحقة تم ذكر نفحة من تكاليف العباد تجاهه، وآداب وعادات العبودية وعبودية الخلق في أيام الغيبة، كما وتم ذكر بعض الأزمنة والأوقات المختصة بإمام العصر عليه السلام، وتكليف الرعية في هذه الأوقات بالنسبة إليه.
