إن مبدأ الوحدة مبدأ عقلي وعقلاني أقرّه الأنبياء والنصوص الدينية، وكان من إهتمامات الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وبخاصة بعد تشكيل أوّل حكومة إسلامية في المدينة المنوّرة، لكنّ الوحدة كأي ظاهرة إجتماعية إيجابية تتعرّض لآفات وأمراض، لأجل ذلك اهتمّ أهل الحلّ والعقد من المسلمين وبخاصّة علمائهم بقضية الوحدة والعوامل المؤثّرة فيها سلباً وإيجاباً.
وفي هذا المجال لعبت السياسة وما زالت تلعب دوراً مهماً وحساساً في مجال وحدة المسلمين أو التفرقة بينهم؛ بالطبع لا نريد حصر قضية فرقة المسلمين في عامل السياسة الداخلية أو الحكومات الإسلامية، بل هناك عوامل لا يقلّ دورها عن دور سياسة الحكومات الإسلامية، من قبيل الجهل بالمذاهب وعدم التثبت قبل الحكم، ولغة الطعن والتنابز بالألقاب وتدخُّل الدول الأجنبية الإستعمارية في قضايا المسلمين وسعيها لإيجاد الفرقة، لغرض تمرير أجندتها وتحكيم نفوذها في هذه الدول.
ويمكن القول بأنّ أساس المشكلة في مضمار السياسة التي تحكم العالم الإسلامي يكمن في التربية السياسية التي عرضها ويعرضها أهل الحلّ والعقد في هذا العالم، وعلاج المشكلة في تقديم أطروحة مدروسة لهذه القضية، وهو ما سعى إليه الباحث في هذا الكتاب.
