من يدرس حياة وتاريخ هنري كتن، الذي ولد في القدس عام 1906 وتوفي في باريس عام 1932، يجد أنه قد عانى وشاهد عبر هذه الحياة بقايا الاحتلال العثماني لأرض الوطن، ذلك الاحتلال الذي أذاق شعبنا الأمرين: الجوع والعري، وعد بلفور والاحتلال الانكليزي الذي مهد لأبشع جريمة في التاريخ المعاصر، إقامة كيان الغزو الإسرائيلي عام 1948، الهجرة من القدس بعد سقوط القسم الغربي منها بيد المحتلين، وهي بلد المؤلف ومسقط رأسه والجني الذي تابعه ولم يفارقه خياه الى أن كانت الوفاة في باريس، حيث ينتظر جثمانه من ينقله الى القدس.
كانت محصلة رحلة هنري كتن القاسية والثرة والعنيدة تسعة وضعها في خدمة القضية العربية.
ويعتبر هذا الكتاب من أهم الكتب التي تناولت قضية فلسطين بشكل عام، والمدينة المقدسة بشكل خاص.
