هذا الكتاب محاضرات القيت في الازهر سنة 1930 م وقد رتبه مؤلفه بحيث يذكر اسم النبي وعدد ومواضع وروده في القرآن، ثم يجمع أخبار كل حادثة على حدة، ثم يبين ما ورد عنها في التوراة والانجيل لا للاستدلال اذ طرأ عليهما التحريف ولكن لتوسيع أفق القارئ، ثم يبين العظة والعبرة . وقد بين مراجعه من كتب التفسير والتاريخ واللغة والمناظرات في المقدمة كما بين منهجه الذي سبب له مواجهة انتقادات من علماء في الازهر كجعله العقل الركن الاول، رد احاديث الآحاد في العقائد والمعجزات واثباتها بالمتواتر، كون الاسرائيليات ليست حجة، عدم الحرج في مخالفة اقوال المفسرين بشرط ان لا يعارض اللغة ومقاصد الدين وهو يورد نقد لجنة الازهر في الهامش ثم يرد عليه بما يراه.
