"قام الباحث العربي هشام أبو حاكمة بإجراء دراسة معمقة في موضوع الهيكل ضمنها في كتاب تحت عنوان مسجد داوود وليس هيكل سليمان صدر عن دار الجليل للدراسات والأبحاث الفلسطينية.
وخلصت الدراسة الى أن سيدنا داوود أو سليمان عليهما السلام لم يبنيا هيكلا في أورشاليم وإنما قاما ببناء بيت للصلاة فيه ولم يكن فيه أي من الأوثان التي يدعي أعداء الله ان سليمان عليه السلام قد وضعها في ذلك الهيكل المزعوم.
ان مسألة هيكل سليمان المزعوم حسب المؤلف تعتبر مسألة أساسية في الخيال اليهودي وهي واحدة من القضايا الأساسية التي يقوم عليها الصراع الفلسطيني الإسرائيلي والإسلامي اليهودي ويحيطه اليهود بهالة من القدسية ويعتبرون وجوده أساساً لوجودهم على ارض فلسطين ولتبرير هذا الادعاء المزعوم فهم يحاولون إرجاع كل أثر يجدونه في حفرياتهم في منطقة الحرم القدسي الشريف الى عصر داوود وسليمان عليهما السلام على اعتبار أنهما يمثلان عصر بني إسرائيل الأول في فلسطين ولكن لم يثبت أي شيء من ذلك لا اثرياً ولا تاريخياً.
ويقول أبو حاكمة في كتابه إن إرادة الله اقتضت أن يبني سيدنا داوود عليه السلام مسجده في أورشاليم وان يكون الجدار الجنوبي للمسجد الأقصى وان تكون وجهته نحو الكعبة المشرفة القبلة وان من المتعارف عليه لدى المسلمين بأن الجدار الجنوبي يسمى بجدار القبلة.
ويؤكد أبو حاكمة أن الأمور التأسيسية لبيت داوود عليه السلام مسجد داوود كان مقدراً لها أن تكون مسجداً وليس معبداً وثنياً منذ البداية وبالتالي لا وجود لما يسمى بهيكل سليمان.
