إن التربية تكوَن نوعاً من التوازن بين حاجات الفرد وحاجات المجتمع، فلا يمكن إلاّ أن يكون الإثنان متلازمان فالفرد يتأثر بالوضع الإجتماعي العام وتأثيره الشخصي يظهر جليّاً عندما يكون على مستوى عالٍ من المعرفة والثقافة المتميّزة.
وربما أننا في بداية القرن الواحد والعشرين، وبالرّغم من القلق والإضطراب الذي يعيشه عالم اليوم وبالرّغم من الأزمات الإقتصادية القاتلة وبرغم الحروب المدمّرة التي لا تُرحم نجد تقدّماً هائلاً في مجالات كثيرة من العلوم: الإتصالات... الكمبيوتر.. الذرّة... بالإضافة لكل أنواع الصناعات وخصوصاً في الدولة المتقدمة... أوروبا... أميركا الشماليّة... شرق آسيا... الصّين وروسيا.
في هذا الخضمّ الزّاخر ترى لزاماً علينا أن نحدّد دور الطفل وكيف يمكن متابعة ورعايته وقد حاولت من خلال هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيديكم أن أكون منطقيّاً وعقلانياً قدر الإمكان وقد وضعت فيه خلاصة تجربتي التربوية التي استمرّت حوالي أربعين عاماً، كما حاولت أن أستفيد قدر الإمكان من خبرات وتجارب التربويين الكبار ومراكز الأبحاث ما أمكن مع ذكر أسمائهم ومؤلّفاتهم وأتمنّى أن أكون قد وفقت فيما سعيت إليه وأن يكون هذا الكتاب بداية لكتب أُخرى تربويّة سأحاول أن أكتبها بإذن الله تعالى.
