هذا الكتاب هو محاولة من تلك المحاولات التي ترجع للقصة أهميتها في التربية والتهذيب والتعليم. فالنفس تعيش مع القصة بكل أحاسيسها بشوق ولهفة متطلعة إلى كشف الأحداث المجهولة فيها، مستفيدة بمختلف العبر منها، وقد سئل أبو القاسم الجنيد عن حكايات الصالحين فقال: "هي جند من جنود الله تعالى يقوم بها أحوال المريدين ويحيا بها معالم أسرار العارفين ويهيج بها خواطر المحبين ويجرى بها دموع المشتاقين".
هذا وإن قصص المعروضة في هذا الكتاب كانت موزعة ومبثوثة في أعماق كتب التفاسير والسيرة والحديث والفقه، ولأهميتها فقد عني الباحث على الغوص فيها واستخراجها مبوبة حتى لا يحرم القارئ منها وقد ضمنه قصصاً أخرى وتتبعها بأقوال العلماء وفوائد لطيفة وتعقيبات طريفة وتذييلات خفيفة.
هذا الكتاب الذي أقدمه هو محاولة من تلك المحاولات التي ترجع للقصة أهميتها في التربية والتهذيب والتعليم. فالنفس تعيش مع القصة بكل أحاسيسها بشوق ولهفة متطلعة إلى كشف الأحداث المجهولة فيها، مستفيدة بمختلف العبر منها، وقال الإمام أبو حنيفة رضي الله عنه: الحكايات عن العلماء ومحاسنهم أحب إلي من كثير من الفقه لأنها آداب القوم وشاهده في كتاب الله تعالى أولئك الذين هدى الله فبهداهم اقتداه وقوله تعالى: لقد كان في قصصهم عبرة لأولي الألباب.
فأحببت أن أجمع ما تيسر من أخبار الصحابة والعلماء والصالحين وأعرضها بلغة سهلة على إخواني الواعظين والخطباء المبتدئين والمتعلمين السالكين، إذ القصة تكاد تكون شرطاً أساسياً في خطبهم لنجاحهم في التأثير وهي أبلغ من النصح المجرد الذي يورث في النفوس الملل الكبير، وقد جربت تأثيرها في مستمعيها طيلة السنوات التي قمت فيها بمهمة الخطابة ببلدي بشمال البلاد التونسية.
