أجمع المربون على أن "الطفل مكتشف جديد في عالم مجهول"، والموسوعة هذه تلبي رغبة الاكتشاف الحدسي عند الطفل للعالم الذي يحيط به. وهي مقسمة إلى عدة أبحاث (حوالي العشرين) تدور حول أربعة مواضيع أساسية؛ أولاً: التعرف إلى الإنسان والحيوان والنبات، كي يكتشف الطفل حقائق العالم المحيط به بفكر علمي متوازن بعيد عن كل نوع من أنواع التعصب (القبلي، العائلي، الديني، الجنسي، المناطقي...). ثانياً: تاريخ البشرية: لاكتشاف حياة الناس على الأرض من الماضي البعيد حتى عصرنا الحاضر، وما فيه من تقنيات واختراعات غريبة. ثالثاً: مشاهدة العالم والسماء والأرض والطبيعة كي يصبح بإمكانه أن يميز بوضوح تفاصيل البيئة الطبيعية والحضارية التي تحيط به ويحافظ على هذه البيئة. رابعاً: التعرف إلى الفن والحياة اليومية، فيجد في هذه الموسوعة بعض الفنون وكيفية التعاطي معها بشكل عملي. إضافة إلى إفساح المجال أمامه كي يتعرف إلى قواعد ومسالك الحياة الحضارية بأفراحها والتزامها... الخ. ولم تنس هذه الموسوعة أن الطفل في هذا العمر لا يزال يتدرج في القراءة والكتابة، فكانت النصوص قصيرة ومزدانة بصور ملونة ومفرحة.
