أجلُّ آثار الشيخ رشيد الخطيب الموصلي ـ رحمه الله ـ لم يبدأ في كتابته حتى برع في علوم اللغة، وكتب عشرات الكتب في مختلف العلوم، ثم أمضى في تأليفه وتنقيحه قرابة نصف قرن أنفقها متفكراً في كل كلمة من القرآن، متتبعاً كل لفظ منه، مؤثِراً الإيجاز والاقتصار على أصح الأقوال، معتنياً بذكر المناسبات بين الآيات، مستنبطاً بنفسه أحياناً بعض المعاني مراعياً في ذلك مفاهيم اللغة وعُرف التخاطب، مقدّماً لعمله بمقدمات مهمّة في بعض خصائص القرآن في أساليبه وتراكيبه، وأغراضه ومقاصده. وقد أثرَى المحقق العملَ بتنبيهات مهمّة حول ما تابع فيه المؤلف مدرسةَ الشيخ محمد عبده العقليّة المعاصرة، وجعل بين يديه مقدِّمةً ومداخلَ في ترجمة مختصرة للمؤلف وكلمةٍ موجزة عن تفسيره ومنهجه فيه، وفي تأثُّرِه الكبير بمدرسة الشيخ محمد عبده، وأجوبةٍ للعلامة عبد الكريم تتَّان على بعض المسائل المشكلة، ثم ألحق بالتفسير كـتابين مؤلَّفَين عنه، وختمه بالفهارس العلمية.
