للصورة الفنية مناهجها المتعددة، وأساليبها المختلفة، ونحن نلمسها عند الشعراء في تعبيرهم عن وجدانهم وأفكارهم، وإن كان استخدامهم لها يختلف من واحد لآخر، وقد أظهر هذا المؤلف الذي بين أيدينا خصوصية الصورة عند النابغة الذبياني، وتعني بها الصورة التي كان الشاعر يصفها ويبدعها عن طريق الخيال، وعن طريق ترتيبه للعناصر الجديدة التي يأتي بها. فمثلاً: صورة الأطلال وصورة المرأة في الشعر القديم يشترك فيها الشعراء جميعاً في عصر ما قبل الإسلام، ولكن كل شاعر يرتب صورة حسب خياله هو، وحسب عناصره التي يستمدها من حياته وبيئته التي يعيش فيها، ويتأثر بما حوله منها، مستخدماً في ذلك كل الأدوات والوسائل التي تعينه على إظهار مقدرته الفنية. ومن هنا يكون التباين والتمايز في تركيب الصورة الفنية عند الشعراء.
