عالج الكتابُ موضوع المطابقة في النحو العربي، وهو موضوعٌ يؤرِّق متعلِّمي اللغة العربية المبتدئين؛ إذْ إنه موضوعٌ واسعٌ ومتشعِّب. ومن الملاحظ أن المتعلِّمين الأجانب يواجهون في معظم الأحيان صعوبةً في المسائل المتعلِّقة بالمطابقة، ولا سيّما في التذكير والتأنيث، والتّعريف والتّنكير، وكثيرًا ما يقعون في هفواتٍ عند تعلُّم تلك المسائل. ويتميّز هذا الكتاب بإحاطته بمسائل المطابقة ومعالجته إياها في صورة موجزة ومكثّفة. ولا يخلو من قيمةٍ عِلمية وتعليمية؛ إذ جمع الباحث فيه بين المنهج المعياري، والمنهج التحويلي التوليدي، والمنهج الوظيفي، وسخّر فيه كثيرًا من مفاهيم اللسانيات الحديثة لتخدم الغاية التعليمية. وقد أرسى أسسًا علمية لإعداد الكتب التعليمية، وإجراء الدراسات التقابلية بين اللغة العربية واللغات الأخرى في مجال مهمّ، هو قواعد المطابقة. وقد أحاط المؤلِّف بشتات مسائل المطابقة، وأظهر قدرةً على تجديد الدراسة النحوية العربية نظريًا وتطبيقيًا، ونبّه في كثير من المواضع على ما سُكِتَ عنه في القواعد التقليدية.
