بين غربة الذات وغربة المجتمع تتموضع حركة السرد في رواية الكاتب اللبناني "طوني ضاهر" متنقلة بين (عالم الحياة) وبين (عالم ما بعد الموت) والتي اختار لها "ضاهر" عنواناً لافتاً (مذكرات ما بعد الموت) وكأنه أراد أن يضع جدارا نفسيا عازلا بين عالم الواقع وعالم الروح ومآل الإنسان بعد الموت.
يتخذ الكاتب من شخصية بطل الرواية "عساف" وما يدور حوله في ضيعة "وادي الجواهر" وأهلها من مآس وصراعات وصدامات أنموذجاً للواقع اللبناني الحالي في بعده (الديني - السياسي) وتأثير ذلك على حياة الناس. هذا من ناحية، ومن ناحية أخرى أراد القول أن إرادة الحياة هي الأقوى على الرغم وأد الأحلام، ولكن "ليس من المعيب أن نحلم ولكن قد تشعرون بالموت عندما ترون آخرين يحققون أحلامهم وأنتم ما زلتم نائمين".
