وقفة مع التاريخ بين يدي سيد الشهداء الإمام الحسين عليه السلام، فما بين ميلاده حتى استشهاده دروس وعظات وعبر بليغة ما أجدر المسلمين اليوم بتتبعها والوقوف عندها لتدبرها وفهمها، ورغم صعوبة الإلمام بكل جوانب شخصية الإمام الحسين عليه السلام فقد بذلت اللجنة الثقافية في فرع هيئة محمد الأمين بقم جهداً لكي يخرج هذا الكتاب في ستة عشر فصلاً. توزعت على الشكل التالي: في الفصل الأول نفحات من نور الإمام الحسين ومكانته عند الله سبحانه وتعالى ورسوله الكريم.
وفي الفصل الثاني ميلاده وتسميته وما ورد فيهما من أقوال صحيحة. أما الفصل الثالث فيتعرض لأخلاق سيد الشهداء وعفوه وطيب شمائله وتسامحه وحلمه وجوده وكيفية معاشرته، وخدمته للمستضعفين. وأفرد الفصل الرابع لاحتجاجات الأمام الحسين عليه السلام على عمر بن الخطاب في الإمامة والخلافة، واحتجاج الحسين بذكر مناقب أمير المؤمنين وأولاده.
والفصل الخامس، عرض لمعجزاته، في حين يعرض الفصل السادس لأخبار الرسول "أن الحسين يقتله يزيد"، كما يعرض الفصل السابع لفضل كربلاء فضل الحائر الحسيني. أما الفصل الثامن فيشرح الهدف العالمي المتمثل في ثورة الحسين عليه السلام، وتدخل اليهود والنصارى والتأثير البيزنطي في عهد يزيد وما بعده. ويعرض الفصل التاسع للأسباب التي حدت بالإمام الحسين إلى أن يُُُأذن لأنصاره بالانصراف عنه ووجه تزويجه القاسم يوم عاشوراء، وهجرته إلى العراق.
كما يعرض الفصل العاشر للأخبار الواردة عن مصيبة الحسين وأنها أعظم المصائب. ثم يعرض الفصل الحادي عشر لقتل مسلم وملحمة الحسين ومصرع علي الأكبر، والقاسم والعباس ومصره الطفل الرضيع، ومصرع شيد الشهداء. وخطاب السيدة زينب في أهل الشام، وخطاب السيدة أم كلثوم، وخطاب الإمام زين العابدين في مجلس ابن زياد. ويعرض الفصل الثاني عشر لعذاب قاتلي الحسين وثواب لعنهم.
كما يعرض الفصل الثالث عشر لبكاء السماء والأرض، وأهلمها عليه السلام، وضجيج الملائكة إلى الله تعالى. أما الفصل الرابع عشر فيقدم معاجز الحسين قبل وفي المقتل الأليم، أما الفصل الخامس عشر فيضم "ملحقاً الشعائر الحسينية"، بينما يضم الفصل السادس عشر قصائد المدح والرثاء التي قيلت في الإمام الحسين عليه السلام.
