لقد توقفت الإيروسيّة عن أن تمثّل ذلك الموضوع الذي يسبب سقوطاً أخلاقيّاً وإجتماعياً لمن يهتم به، وشرع الناس منذ زمن طويل في الكلام مطوّلاً ومن دون خوف عن الأيروسيّة.
يمكننا القول في شأن الإيروسيّة إنها تتمثل في إقرار حقيقة الحياة حتى في الموت، أعتقد أن هذه الصيغة أفضل من سواها لتحديد معنى هذه الكلمة، أما إذا ما أردنا أن نجد تعريفاً دقيقاً للإيروسيّة، فسيترتب علينا الإنطلاق من النشاط الجنسي الذي يؤدي إلى التكاثر والذي لا تمثل الإيروسيّة سوى حالة خاصة منه.
وهذا النشاط مشترك للإنسان والحيوان، ولكن يبدو أن البشر هم من حوّل النشاط الجنسي إلى نشاط إيروسيّ.
إن غاية ما تنطوي عليه الإيروسيّة هو إدراك الكينونة في عمقها، فالمرور من الحالة العادية للكائن إلى حالة الرغبة الإيروسيّة تفترض الإنحلال النسبي فينا لهذه الكينونة القائمة في منظومة الإنفصال.
وتعكس عبارة الإنحلال هنا معنى تلك العبارة المألوفة المرتبطة بالإيروسيّة عندما نقول: "حياة منحلّة"، ويلعب الشريك الذكر مبدئياً دوراً فعالاً في حركة الإنحلال، أما الطرف الأنثوي فهو سلبيّ، اي أن ما يتلاشى بإعتباره كينونة هو الطرف السلبي، أي الأنثوي، ولكن ليس لإنحلال الطرف السلبي بالنسبة إلى الشريك الذكر سوى هذا المعنى: إنه مقدمة لإنصهار ينطوي على الإندماج بين كائنين يبلغان معاً في النهاية نفس نقطة الإنحلال.
فالمبدأ المقوّم للعملية الإيروسيّة بأكملها هو تدمير بنية الكينونة المنغلقة المتمثلة في الحالة العادية لمن هو شريك في العملية.
