القومية الكوردية في الشرق الأوسط حقيقة جغرافية تاريخية - سياسية، والعنصر الكوردي عنصر أصيل في المنطقة وليس تفاحة نيوتن سقطت على الأرض، حسب وصف الباحث في الشؤون التركية محمد نور الدين. وتركيا لا تستطيع إنكار وتجاهل "الحقيقة الكوردية" الى ما لا نهاية، فانبعاث القومية الكوردية في المنطقة حقيقي، غير مرتبط بأية قوة أو دولة أو حدث، وأثبتت حقيقة هامة وهي: إن الشعوب لا تموت، ومهما كانت القوة المناهضة لها جبارة فليس ثمة شعب أن مات وانقرض. إن قدرة تركيا على كبح الهوية الكوردية باتت شبه عديمة، وعلى تركيا اليوم، المتلهفة لدخول الاتحاد الاوروبي، أن تلعب دوراً في تشجيع شعوب المنطقة على التقارب والاتحاد، وأن تنظر الى مطالب الكورديين في العراق وتركيا بنفس نظرتها الى حقوق وتطلعات شعب قبرض التركية والأتراك البلغار. وحكومة أردوغان معنية أكثر من غيرها بتغير نظرة الدولة في تركيا الى الكورد، كون حوالي نصف أصواتها جاءت من المناطق الكوردية في أحدث انتخابات شهدتها تركيا.
إن هذا الكتاب - الذي هو بالأساس مجموعة بحوث - هو مساهمة متواضعة في إطار البحث في الشأن التركي، وهو في الوقت نفسه دعوة للمؤسسات والباحثين الكورد إلى إيلاء قدر أكبر من الإهتمام في الكتابة عن تركيا، كتابة أكاديمية بعيدة عن العواطف والمشاعر الآنية.
يتألف هذا الكتاب من قسمين أساسين، اهتم القسم الأول منهُ بالفترة التي أعقبت إنتهاء الحرب العالمية الأولى وحتى إنتهاء مشكلة الموصل، تلك الفترة التي تحددت خلالها الملامح النهائية للخرائط الجديدة لمنطقة الشرق الأوسط والضرورية لفهم سياسات كل من العراق وتركيا إزاء الكورد، وطبيعة علاقاتهما كذلك.
أما القسم الثاني فتضمن أربعة بحوث تمحورت ثلاث منها حول سياسات تركيا نحو كوردستان العراق منذ بداية العقد الماضي، والعلاقات بين تركيا وإقليم كوردستان العراق، كما يضم مبحثاً عن معوقات عودة العلاقات بين الجاريين الحائرين.
