وضع السقاف رسائل عديدة ضمن القسم الكبير منها رده على من يصفهم بالمتمسلفين الذين أشاعوا أفكارهم التي تدعو إلى الفرقة والشقاق بين المسلمين وتبذر بذور الفتنة في الوقت الذي تحتاج فيه الأمة إلى الوحدة والتقارب والتآلف.
وقد جاءت الرسائل في مجلدين بدأها بتعريف العالم الذي يصح أن يعود له المسلمين في معرفة أحكام الإسلام ومبادئه وأفكاره أما المفكر الإسلامي فهو من تمكن من علمي (التوحيد والفقه) لأنه بإداركه لهما يتمكن من التفكير بشكل سليم. أما من لم يمتلك ناحيتي هذين العلمين فلا يجوز إطلاق لقب المفكر الإسلامي عليه. وهذا المفكر كما يقول السيد حسن بن علي السقاف: "مفكر صغير وهو المقلد ومفكر كبير أي مطلق وهو المجتهد ومن يعرف أن إطلاق المفكر الكبير على كثير من المعاصرين مما لا قيمة له".
ويحذر المؤلف أشد ما يحذر من التناقض والتخاطب والخروج عن عقيدة الإسلام وينهى عن الدخول في مناقشات فلسفية لا تمت بصلة للقرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية المطهرة.
