إختبار تفهم الموضوع للأطفال هو إختبار للأطفال ما بين الثالثة والعاشرة من العمر، يستخدم كأداة في عملية التشخيص والعلاج، والكشف عن إتجاهات الأطفال النفسية والإجتماعية، والعقلية.
أهمية هذا الإختبار تكمن في إكتشاف شخصية الطفل ثم تحليل النسق العلائقي عنده ويعني ذلك، تحليل علاقة الطفل مع أبيه وأمه وإخوته وأخواته، يستعمل إختبار تفهم الموضوع للأطفال كتقنية تقدير وتقييم في المجال النفسي وطبعاً في التشخيص العيادي.
وبما أن الطفل يتقمّص بسهولة أدوار الحيوانات وخاصة الأليفة منها، بكل بطاقة من البطاقات العشر لإختبار تفهم الموضوع تحفز إستجابات ظاهرة: تعبير وصفي للرسم وإستجابات كامنة؛ التظاهرات اللاواعية التي حفزتها الرسومات.
إذاً، يساعد هذا إختبار في دراسة حياة الطفل النفسية وعلاقته مع عائلته وإخوته ومع البيئة التي تحيط به كما يدرس هذا الإختبار الصراعات النفسية التي يمكن أن يواجهها الطفل في حياته اليومية كالعدوانية، والغيرة (المنافسة الأخوية).
ويتعمق هذا الإختبار في المشاكل العلائقية التي يواجهها الطفل خلال نموه وقبوله لأهله، أما على صعيد الهوية الجنسية، يكشف لنا هذا الإختبار عن مراحل النمو عند الطفل وتصوره لنفسه من خلال الإسقاطات التي يستعملها خلال سرده للقصص.
يعدّ هذا الإختبار الأسقاطي مرجعاً للدراسات النفسية ويستعمل في الجامعات العالمية ويدرس في كل أقسام علم النفس والطب النفسي، ففائدته ليست فقط على صعيد بحوث شخصية، بل أيضاً حول النمو والخيال العقلي عند الطفل، وكما ذكر "بيلاك" بأن هذا الإختبار هو مهمّ أيضاً في مجالات سيكولوجية مختلفة مثل التفكير، والإتجاهات، والعدوان.
