المعلقات هي أشهر ما وصل إلينا من الشعر الجاهلي، وقد اعتنى بها الدراسون الأوائل على الرغم من تقاليدها الفنية المعقدة في الوزن والقافية وفي المعاني والموضوعات وفي الأساليب والصناعات المحكمة. وفي هذا الكتاب شرح المعلقات السبع للحسين بن أحمد بن الحسين الزوزني المتوفي سنه 486 هـ اعتنت بها فاتن محمد خليل اللبون وفقاً للمصادر الاتية: 1- امرؤ القيس: ديوان امرئ القيس (دار صادر- بيروت)، 2- طرفة بن العبد: شرح ديوان طرفة بن العبد (دار الكتاب العربي)، 3- زهير بن أبي سلمى: شرح ديوان زهير بن أبي سلمى لأبي العباس (دار الكتاب العربي)، 4- لبيد بن ربيعة: شرح ديوان لبيد بن ربيعة للطوسي (دار الكتاب العربي)، 5- عمرو بن كلثوم: شرح ديوان عمرو بن كلثوم (دار الكتاب العربي)، 6- عنترة بن شداد: شرح ديوان عنترة للخطيب التبريزي (دار الكتاب العربي).
وفي جميع هذه المصادر عملت المصنفة على ترجمة حياة كل شاعر من أصحاب المعلقات، وتخريج الآيات القرآنية الكريمة، وشرح الكلمات المبهمة والصعبة، ثم ذكر وزن الشعر الذي يستشهد به الشارح (الزوزني) مع الإشارة إليه في الكتاب. واخيراً تخريج بعض الأحاديث الشريفة.
