بعد صدور كتابه الأول "لاهوت التجسد من الهندوسية إلى المسيحية" وهو واحد من أربعة كتب هي ثمرة زهاء عشرات سنوات من البحث المضني يطلع علينا المؤلف الدكتور داود السعدي بكتابه الثاني "الرجل الذي اضطهد المسيحية مرتين" والواقع أن الهدف من هذا الكتاب ليس إلا البحث عن الحقيقة المحضة من مصادرها الأصلية.
اعتمد المؤلف فيه على نصوص "الكتاب المقدس" المتداولة والمعترف بها، العربية منها والإنكليزية، في طبعاتها المختلفة، كما اعتمد في غير ذلك المورد، على النصوص المترجمة، والإنكليزية منها بشكل خاص، أكثر بكثير من المصادر العربية التي تعتبر شحيحة نسبياً بالمقارنة مع نظيراتها الأجنبية، كما أن البحوث الغربية، إذ تسودها عامةً روح البحث عن الحقيقة، والتحليل العميق، فإنها أكثر جرأة في تناولها لما هو بصدده من بحث.
وقد ألزم نفسه في هذا الكتاب بروح البحث العلمي المجرد، فبذل الغاية من الوسع بحيث استغرق منه الجهد الكبير والوقت المديد، ولم يكن رائد في ذلك كله إلا البحث عن الحقيقة كأقرب ما تكون إلى الحقيقة المحضة المجردة، مثلما لم تكن أداته فيه إلا النظرة المدققة والمتأنية لما بين يديه من النصوص.
