إنَّ هذا الكتاب ذو طابع توثيقي لا يبتعد كثيراً عن النقد ولا يدَّعي الموضوعية المطلقة، وقد تناولت فيه العُلمَاء الرُّوَّاد وعدداً من الأساتذة الذين واصلوا المسيرة بعدهم آملاً أنْ يكونَ ما كتبتهُ عنهم كافياً للتعريف بهم، وهذا حق لهم علينا ولا سيَّما أنَّ كثيراً من جيل السوسيولوجيين الشباب لم يطَّلع على إنجازاتهم بصورة تُؤهله للتواصل مع أفكارهم على الرغم من أنَّ بعضاً من مؤلفاتهم ما زال يُدّرس حتى الآن.
إنَّ علم الإجتماع في عراق اليوم - ولا استثني الأنثروبولوجيا والخدمة الإجتماعية - يواجه معوقات عديدة، لعلَّ أولها أن أساتذة جيل الشباب الحالي غادروا القسم، موتاً أو تقاعداً، من دون ان تكتمل خبرات هذا الجيل مع علمي بأنَّ بعضاً من الشباب غير مقتنع بهذا القول معتقداً أنَّ أولئك الأساتذة يمثِّلون مدرسة قديمة وأن الحاجة لهم انتفت.
إن أهمية التواصل مع نتاجات الروَّاد ضروري لرصد التغيرات التي شَهِدها المجتمع العراقي من جهة والإحاطة برؤية أولئك الروَّاد لتلك التغيرات وإمكانية مقارنتها بالوقائع الراهنة من جهة أخرى.
أعتقد أنَّنا نستطيع أن ندرك بُعداً نقدياً صراعياً في كتابات عدد من الروَّاد، لعلَّ في مقدمتهم الوَرْدِيّ، الذي نجحَ في جعل عِلْم الإجتماع ثقافةً شعبيةً أثارت حفيظة القوى المُحَافِظَة.
