"بستان الواعظين ورياض السامعين" هو بحق بستان ورياض لكل من يعتلي منبر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لكي ينهل منه الحكم والمواعظ التي اشتهر بها الحافظ ابن الجوزي، حيث يجد القارئ من النكت الظراف الكثير بين ثنايا صفحات هذا الكتاب.
والإمام ابن الجوزي هو العلامة الحافظ عالم العراق جمال الدين أبو الفرج، عبد الرحمن بن أبي الحسن علي بن محمد بن عبد الله البغدادي الحنبلي الواعظ المفسر صاحب التصانيف السائرة في فنون العلم. كتب بخطه ما لا يوصف كثرة ووعظ في حدود سنة عشرين وخمس مائة إلى أن مات.
وكتابه الذي نقلب صفحاته هو من مؤلفاته المهمة في مجال الوعظ، يستفيد منه الداعية والواعظ والمربي والباحث. ولأهميته تمّ إخراجه في حلّة معاصرة. محققاً حيث تمّ ضبط النص وعزو الآيات في متن الكتاب وتخريج الأحاديث النبوية وبعض الآثار كما تمّ تفقير الكتاب على أساس المواعظ (أي تفقير كل موعظة على حدة). بالإضافة إلى ذلك تمّ إغناء الكتاب بفهارس للآيات وللأحاديث النبوية والآثار وأقوال العلماء وفهارس للغريب من العبارات مع شرح بعض الكلمات الصعبة وفهارس للأعلام، مع بعض التراجم لهم.
